Historic townhall, Wuppertal

Posted by Michael (Wuppertal, Germany) on 25 December 2007 in Architecture.

The Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal, one of the most remarkable concert
halls and conference centres in Europe and a member of the Historic Con-
ference Centres of Europe (HCCE), looks down over the town from a green hillside. There is nowhere else quite like it in Germany.

It was built in 1900 in the magnificent, opulent style characteristic
of the period of Emperor William II and reopened in 1995 after masterly
renovation, with the result that its original splendour and unique acoustics
are now combined with state-of-the-art technical equipment.
